Remote sensors in banana cultivation

11/03/2022 Go to Evidence

The study presents a review of the use of remote sensors in agriculture, with an emphasis on their applications for banana cultivation (Musa AAA) in Costa Rica and other tropical regions. It evaluates three main areas: the delimitation of cultivated areas, the estimation of productivity, and the diagnosis of diseases. It analyzes the advantages of using satellite imagery, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and drones (UAVs) in agricultural monitoring, highlighting their accuracy (up to 95%) in identifying plantations and detecting diseases such as black Sigatoka and Fusarium wilt. The study demonstrates the potential of these technologies to improve agricultural planning, environmental management, and phytosanitary prevention.

6 Pathways Connecting Agriculture-Nutrition

Nutritional outcomes and agriculture are linked in six important ways: as a source of food, as a source of income, through food prices, women's empowerment, women's time use, and women's health and nutritional status (Duncan et al., 2022).

Insufficient Public Health Conceptual Frameworks

01/02/2022 Go to Evidence

Current frameworks used to guide nutrition interventions are designed from a health sector paradigm, leaving agricultural aspects not sufficiently leveraged (Duncan et al., 2022).

Los marcos actuales utilizados para guiar las intervenciones nutricionales están diseñados desde un paradigma del sector salud, dejando aspectos agrícolas no suficientemente aprovechados (Duncan et al., 2022).
