State support for the Peruvian agricultural sector (2019–2022) is analyzed using the OECD methodology (PSE and GSSE), quantifying subsidies, general services, and competitiveness programs, and linking them to the sector's GHG emissions. It assesses its consistency with the NDCs and the National Agricultural Policy 2021–2030, highlighting the need to reorient incentives towards climate-smart and low-carbon agricultural practices.

The study analyzes local development in the Quevedo canton (Ecuador) based on the strengthening of its agricultural production chains, combining a review of scientific literature and a territorial diagnosis. It identifies the structural conditions, levels of association, and degree of commercial integration of the main crops (bananas, rice, cocoa, African palm, and tropical fruits) revealing an unequal and fragmented structure. The results highlight problems such as intermediation, limited access to credit, low levels of technification, and weak institutional governance, which limit the competitiveness and sustainability of the territory. The article concludes that strengthening chains with a territorial, inclusive, and sustainable approach is essential to boost the rural economy, reduce inequality, and consolidate an equitable local development model.

The study analyzes advances and trends in the use of artisanal biopreparations in Latin American agriculture, made with natural ingredients and native microorganisms as an alternative to conventional agrochemicals. Through a bibliometric analysis, it identifies the leading countries in research (Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, and Mexico), the main types of biopreparations, such as Bokashi, and the crops where they are applied. The study highlights the need to strengthen applied research, knowledge dissemination, and collaboration between scientists and farmers to expand the adoption of sustainable agroecological practices.

This study examined the relationship between air and sea surface temperatures, Peruvian organic agro-exports (2000–2022), and food security. It found that higher organic agro-exports reduce undernourishment globally and enhance access to healthy diets despite climate change (Coayla & Bedon, 2024).

The agrifood supply chain of Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) stands out for its resilience to the COVID-19 pandemic, and multiple studies have been conducted to analyze the differential impacts of the pandemic across firms and sectors. Less is known regarding the strategies implemented for business continuity during this catastrophic shock. The purpose of this study was to analyze the responses toward innovations of the LAC agrifood supply chain to the COVID-19 health emergency using data gathered from agribusinesses from 22 LAC countries. The study contributes to the literature by taking a comprehensive look at the responses of businesses along the LAC agrifood chains, and it is also one of the first longer-term quantitative assessments as it considers responses from the first and second years of the pandemic. The results from our two surveys show that over 70% of agribusinesses implemented innovations, revealing firms’ positive and prompt reactions. Although most innovations were longer-term, in many cases, innovations were only temporary. Statistical analyses suggest that the likelihood of implementing longer-term innovations is associated with the agrifood segment, the agrifood chain stage, receiving long-term public or private support, having access to credit, and positive future perspectives about business conditions.

The study conducts a systematic review of the methods applied in prospective studies for strategic planning of agri-food chains in Latin America and the Caribbean between 2010 and 2021. It examines the most widely used methodologies (such as MACTOR, MICMAC, and Delphi), their contributions to decision-making, and the challenges that remain in institutionalizing regional foresight. It also highlights the importance of incorporating a long-term vision that links sustainability, innovation, and food security in the development of agri-food production systems.
