Study conducted by the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences (Cuba) between 2020 and 2022, with support from Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC). It evaluates the effect of applying agroecological practices on three farms in the municipality of Jaruco, Mayabeque province, which are transitioning to sustainable systems. Through interviews and participant observation, the impact of the use of bioproducts, organic fertilizers, varietal diversification, and biological control on the yields of crops such as sweet potatoes, beans, and corn was analyzed, showing increases of 20% to 70%. The results show improvements in the productivity, resilience, and sustainability of agroecosystems, contributing to local food security and sovereignty.

The relationship between agriculture, food security, and food sovereignty is investigated, highlighting the role of public policies in guaranteeing the right to adequate and sustainable food. Based on an analysis of academic sources and international organizations, it addresses the main challenges facing agriculture in Colombia and Latin America, such as land concentration, dependence on imports, and rural inequality. The study highlights the need to strengthen family farming, promote gender equality, and consolidate local food systems geared toward self-sufficiency and social justice.

The study presents a review of the use of remote sensors in agriculture, with an emphasis on their applications for banana cultivation (Musa AAA) in Costa Rica and other tropical regions. It evaluates three main areas: the delimitation of cultivated areas, the estimation of productivity, and the diagnosis of diseases. It analyzes the advantages of using satellite imagery, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and drones (UAVs) in agricultural monitoring, highlighting their accuracy (up to 95%) in identifying plantations and detecting diseases such as black Sigatoka and Fusarium wilt. The study demonstrates the potential of these technologies to improve agricultural planning, environmental management, and phytosanitary prevention.

The article analyzes crop association as an alternative for the development of sustainable agriculture in Latin America. Through a review of 88 studies, it shows that polyculture, agroforestry, and silvopastoral systems improve productivity, profitability, and climate resilience compared to monocultures. It highlights the benefits for soil fertility, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation, proposing this practice as a comprehensive path toward agricultural and food sustainability in rural farming contexts.
