Clima-LoCa

The objective of this initiative is to promote climate-relevant innovations with low assimilation of cadmium in cocoa production, in order to improve the resilience, competitiveness and inclusion of the cocoa chain in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. The idea is to combine interdisciplinary approaches—soil, cocoa genetics, socioeconomics, technical dissemination—to generate maps of cadmium in soils and grains, evaluate clones and agricultural practices, disseminate results, and support public policy decisions for smallholder cocoa farmers affected by European cadmium regulations.
